Your journey — six small skills

Before every ride

Helmet — Eyes · Ears · Mouth. Level, two fingers above your brows; straps make a "V" under each ear; snug at the chin, room for two fingers.

  • Wear closed-toe flat shoes; nothing loose near the chain.
  • Practice on a large, flat, traffic-free space — no hills yet.

How practice usually goes

  • Most riders are rolling in 3–5 short sessions, a few days apart.
  • Repeat any skill until it feels easy — repeating is the practice.
  • End every session on something you can already do well.

You've done it when you can…

  • Get on, balance, pedal, steer, and stop on your own.
  • Fit your helmet and check your bike every ride.
  • Ride a full loop — and want to ride again.

Remember on tough days

  • Nerves are normal — feeling wobbly means you're learning.
  • Your feet stay down until you decide to lift them.
  • Small wins count. A three-second glide is a real milestone.
  • Your pace, your call. Rest whenever you need to.
